The cravings for spaghetti carbonara are setting in on this gluten free diet. So, I thought I’d live vicariously through you and reminisce about my favorite north county Italian spots. Go indulge!
Trattoria i Trulli
830 S Coast Hwy 101, Encinitas
Best of North County in my opinion. Quaint little eatery on the 101 in Encinitas that does pasta right. I’ve even ordered off menu and they nailed it! This was the first place my wife and I ate when we moved here over 10 years ago and it is still our go to.
Spirito Italian Diner
2508 El Camino Real, Carlsbad
Are you craving a cozy authentic home cooked meal? Then, this is the spot. And the resultant food coma nap is gonna be epic. The meatballs and pizza are amazing.
Rosanna’s Pasta Shop
270 N El Camino Real Ste I, Encinitas
This is our go-to take out place. They have a little bit of seating inside and out, but take out is best at this little Italian market. Get the frozen homemade pastas and gnocchi to cook later in the week. The eggplant parmesan is our favorite.
Cucina enoteca
2730 Via De La Valle, Del Mar
More upscale American Italian fare. Pre-Covid, my wife regularly had her girl’s night here. They have a little wine shop and you pay a $10 corkage fee on their bottles. And their cocktails are superb! My favorite dish was the short rib pappardelle. And they had good gluten free options too!
Buona Forchetta
250 N Coast Hwy 101, Encinitas
We use to drive all the way to North Park for this pizza. So stoked they opened up in Encinitas! It is uber popular, so expect a wait on a weekend night. But it’s totally worth it!
